Company B, 13th New Jersey Infantry, Ruger’s Brigade - Born in England, resided in Jersey City. Married Kate Updike on March 11, 1864. She was a head milliner of a store in Trenton, New Jersey. At Gettysburg, Captain Bumsted’s men were everywhere. Their brigade defended Benner’ Hill on July 1, the Round Top area on July 2, and Culp’s Hill on July 3. Robert ran a grocery business in Jersey City after the war, and died in 1887 from typhoid fever. Buried in New York Bay Cemetery, Jersey City.
