Description
A perennial that grows to 3 feet in height. A milky-juiced plant with fleshy, crowded, leathery, stem. Leaves vary in shape: some are round, others sawtoothed. Flowers are yellow.

Flowering Period
May to July.

Habitat
Sandy, dry soil, pine barrens, old fields, and forest openings.

Harvest
Rootstock in August or September.

Uses
The root has been classed as emetic, cathartic, diuretic.
