The Greater Rhea belongs to a group of birds called ratites which includes the Ostrich, Cassowary, Emu, and Kiwis. The mature Greater Rhea is about 1.5 meters tall or half the height of an Ostrich. It escapes predators by running and disappearing by laying flat on the gound with its head straight in front.
