Company L, 8th Illinois Cavalry Gamble’s Brigade - Born in Hamilton, Scotland, January 12, 1839. Fought with Buford’s Division on July 1, 1863. Settled in Kansas after the war and helped raise 10 children. Died March 29, 1940 at 101 years old. 300 attended his 100th birthday.
