Company D, 4th North Carolina Infantry, Ramseur’s Brigade - Wounded in the shoulder and hand and captured at Gettysburg. Joined the U.S. Army on September 22, 1863, while confined as a prisoner at Fort Delaware. Assigned to companies G and H, 3rd Regiment Maryland Cavalry. Worked as stable hand, did garrison duty, and became a military policeman in Natchez, Mississippi. Mustered out at Vicksburg as a Union Sergeant on September 7, 1865.
