This is Baker Springs 5 miles south of Park Valley. James John wrote: "6th. We traveled about 10 miles today in a south west direction and we killed a rabbit and an antelope, game being scarce. Here we were compelled to kill Oxen."

The next day: "on the 7th we traveled 6 miles and encamped at the foot of a mountain near a small brook. Killed an antelope today. This night was cold and windy. There were some Shoshanen [Shoshone] Indians encamped near us. One of the agreed to piot us [to] Marys river for 6 lbs of powder and 100 balls..." The small brook was probably Dove Creek.

The rest of the party overtook the Kelseys at the springs where Bartleson and Hopper returned with the information that the river was 5 days ahead.
